Actions to improve your internet security level

Internet security levels, from the minimum to strong as..

How do you improve and ensure internet security

  1. Use the best, quality anti virus.
Pixel ITT use, sell, install and promote eset's nod32 anti virus software daily.

  2. Use a firewall to block in-bound probes and scans
Agnitum's Outpost Pro firewall and Network Security firewall will also monitor and block in-appropriate out-bound communications and access, as well as many other preventative measures.

  3. Guard against spyware with an active spyware monitoring program.
Pixel ITT's products, Nod32 (antivirus), Outpost firewall, and Safe'n'Sec all contain spyware prevention and removal programs.
There's even free reputable spyware removing tools, but check carefully that they are reputable systems before you use them. (There's a lot of spyware masquerading as spyware and removal tools, so it's very hard for you to tell which is which).

  4. Guard against receiving spam. Ignore then delete suspicious email.
Get a spam filtering system in place or ask your ISP for help.

  5. Make a regular backup of your important files, data, contact email lists, photos, music on some external medium or device.
CD's are wonderful and can be used on other computers if your's becomes an un-happy computer

  6. Use PASSWORDS on every user account on the computer. Remember the password, - DON'T WRITE IT NEAR THE PC -

  7. Don't let visitors use your computer unless you totally trust them.
Some people should always be supervised while they're on your computer.
Maybe move the computer to a common area like the lounge room.

  8. Use genuine products.
Ignoring the risk of legal prosecution, illegal copies of software may have an appealing price,
but unfortunately you pay much more later to resolve any situation - like reloading the computer as new.

  9. Don't believe pop-ups and un-solicited messages that appear on your screen urging you to take immediate action because they 'tell' you that your computer has viruses and spyware.
It is probably spyware, asking you to voluntarily install it - now.

Keep your internet security right up to date

  • Keep your antivirus up to date - daily

  • Make sure the firewall receives any updates available

  • Keep the spyware database current - at least a weekly update

  • Do an incremental (adding to the last backup) backup weekly or monthly - as a minimum period between backups

  • Update your computer operating system and programs.
If you're on broadband, try Microsoft updates to keep windows and office always up to the latest patch level automatically.

  • Check weekly that the above programs are operational and recently updated
